Such a “Heartless” cover reveal (geddit?) – Heartless by Marissa Meyer is having a separate UK cover? How did I not know?

SPONTANEOUS BLOG POST BECAUSE BOOKISH NEWS.

This actually confused me slightly when it was revealed yesterday. Because Heartless by Marissa Meyer had a cover reveal…even though it already had one. I even did a blog post on that one too 😆

And yet here we are today, with another spontaneous blog post because I just feel the need to share all things bookish. Even if it happened yesterday and everyone probably already saw by now. But shhhhhh we’re here to chat about said news.

So here’s the UK cover of Heartless, in

I found the cover reveal over on the MyKindaBook twitter page

My thoughts?

I LOVE IT!

I was a bit hesitant towards the original cover reveal, with it being so simple, but this one takes on a more detailed approach. I love the heart shaped face in the center, and the fonts used. I do think the little slogan underneath the title looks a tad cramped, but I think that’s just because of the font used. But I do really like this cover, much more than the other edition.

Here are both editions side by side:

I’m glad they kept the theme of branches/vines winding all over the cover. When they’re side by side, I’m really noticing how they somehow have a different tone to them. The dark cover looks more…regal but ruthless, with swords and sharp edges everywhere, whereas the light cover doesn’t. It’s just absolutely covered in hearts and has a sort of messier look compared to the clean-cut edges of the other edition. I’m really intrigued to see what I think of the covers after I’ve read the book, just to see which one I think suits the story more.

As for release dates: in the US, it’s released in November, but not until February for us over here in the UK

I know, why why why do we have to wait another 3 months for it???

  1. Ooooh, I think both covers, but I’m not sure what cover I like more. I feel like both covers tell a different story. The USA one looks like it’s showcasing the Queen of Hearts “evil” side with the sword and sharp thorns. Plus red and dark, to me, symbolize something darker. Whereas the UK edition looks like it focuses more on the Queen of Hearts “good” side with the hearts every where. It looks more… innocent? I almost want both covers on my shelf. They’re probably gorgeous in real life 😀 Awesome post!

    Happy Reading!

    1. That’s what I thought! It’s why I said I’m looking forward to comparing them after I read it, and deciding which I think suits better 🙂 I feel like the UK will suit the start but the US will suit the rest of the book 😆

  2. I think I prefer the US cover, as it fits ‘heartless’ a little better in my eyes. The UK one looks like it focuses more on the ‘girl who wanted to fall in love’ part rather than the aftermath of being the Queen of Hearts. Either way, I can’t wait to read it!

  3. I’ve only heard about this book quite recently. Hm, I do prefer the US cover though I think I’m more likely to see the UK cover in stores because i’m in Ireland. I feel the US cover is more dark and mysterious. Maybe I should check this out!

      1. Aha that’s alright thanks, I’ll just wait! I always wait for paperback releases when a book I want is only in hardback, which takes MONTHS, so I’m used to it 🙂

  4. I really like the new UK cover! It’s so much more prettier than the US cover ❤ But I do think without the tagline, the UK cover could be misinterpreted as a contemporary fiction. The US one is also pretty, it's much more darker and simpler though 🙂
