July book haul – because a long month = a long haul

title

As I mentioned in my Wrap Up, July dragged for me. I felt like it went on forever. So when I came to write up this review and saw I had somehow accumulated this many books in July…well, I was quite surprised, because it felt like a lifetime ago.

I’m pretty sure I say that in a lot of hauls though. It just be the common cause of my buying.

Overview

I’ll put it simply. I got nine books in July. Though to be fair, I didn’t buy them all, so…I didn’t spend that much money.

AND in July I read 8 books, so I’ve only added to my TBR by one book. That’s pretty good going, if I do say so myself.

Can you guess any of the books from the picture?

Well, you don’t have to, because I’m about to show them all off screaming LOOK AT ALL THESE PRETTIES.

Here are the books I got in the month of July!

title 1

Invasion of the Tearling

Amazon | Goodreads ]

*Technically* I got this book in June…but it was the second-to-last day of June and I didn’t have a June book haul and it wouldn’t be far to leave it out, right? RIGHT? So here it is.

This book I’ve been waiting for about a year to come out in paperback…so much so that I actually forgot about it, and got mightily excited when I saw it in the bookstore at last. I can finally continue this series! (Though I MAY need to find a summary of the first book online first to remind myself what happened…)

title 2

After you

Amazon | Goodreads ]

Now THIS one I was debating about for so long.

I adored Me Before You – it’s even a favourite of mine – but I think it’d be good as a standalone. So I don’t quite want to read this book…but I also do because I love Lou Clarke. Well, I saw that it was on half price in my local bookstore, and was still debating. So I tried a poll of twitter asking if I should buy it or not, with the answers “Yes” / “No” / “Only if it’s still half price”. And to put it simply, the last answer won, it was still half price, and I ended up getting the book for £4.00.

title 3

A Monster Calls

Amazon  | Goodreads ]

I got this book for free. Kind of. I got it with a £10 voucher that I had earnt through buying lots of books at Waterstones. But yay, free book!

I’ve already read this one, so see my review here.

title 4

Frostblood

Amazon | Goodreads ]

Now this and the next book were a complete surprise to me, and they thrilled me to pieces. I’d seen people getting these two ARCs on Twitter, and had been eyeing them up all along. So imagine my surprise when they just turned up on my doorstep from the publishers! I couldn’t have been happier.

Frostblood is out in January 2017…such a long time away! I’m trying to hold off reading it until closer to the date, so that my review won’t be scheduled for half a year 😆

title 5

Caraval

Amazon | Goodreads ]

I can’t get over how stunning this ARC is. IT’S SO SHINY. And the final cover is just a gorgeous – seriously, go and have a look.

Again, this isn’t out until January 2017, so I’m trying to hold off reading it…I’M SO TEMPTED THOUGH.

title 6

Beneath Wandering Stars

Amazon | Goodreads ]

Another absolutely stunning ARC, but sent by a different person. This was a very different read for me, but enjoyable all the same. I just had mixed feelings.

You can see my review here.

title 7

What's a Girl Gotta Do

Amazon | Goodreads ]

This is the book I’m currently reading (though it’s taking me a mightily long time with how busy I am lately) and I am LOVING it so far. It’s the last book in Holly Bourne’s Spinster Club trilogy, and I had to get it as soon as physically possible. Which actually happened sooner than expected, since Waterstones started selling them early…and as soon as I found that out, I was down at the bookstore. Literally the next day.

title 8

And I Darken

Amazon | Goodreads ]

Well, it turned out that What’s A Girl Gotta Do was on the “buy one get one half price” offer, so I might as well get a book that I’d been eyeing up for a while, hadn’t I?

This one has mixed reviews so I’m really intrigued to see what I think!

title 9

Cursed Child

Amazon | Goodreads ]

The most hyped book of the year award goes to…CURSED CHILD! And I was part of that hype. And still am. BECAUSE I LOVED IT.

The bookstore even had animals in. I held a snake. What a great day it was.

My review for this one went up on Friday, so if you haven’t seen it already, click here.

So there we have it! My July Book Haul!

How many books did you get in July?

Have you read any of the books I listed? What did you think?

  1. I wish I had time to do a wrap up! It takes so much time just doing reviews and reading.
I love your books for July. I honestly love the cover for And I Darken so much more than the other one with the sword.
Hope you had a good July! 😀

    1. I usually write my wrap ups throughout the month – linking all the reviews and posts at the end of each week – so that when it gets to the end of the month I only have to write the final touches 🙂 Makes things much easier!
I like the other cover better ahaha! 😆 I do still like this one though, it looks all dark and mysterious.
And I did, thank you! Hope you did too!

        1. I got cut off…I will start doing the post a couple days before the end of the month so I can have time for it.
You like the other one better? Well, it IS pretty, but it reminds me of Graceling and Defy. I like the badass chick.

          1. I’ll keep an eye out for it!
And bow that I think of it, it DOES look a lot like Graveling (I’ve not seen the other book, though I’m guessing it has a sword in the cover). Yeah, this version is much better in a unique way

          2. I’m glad you like it. 🙌👊 <—high five AND a fist bump. (oh, the drawbacks of speaking through the Internet)
But I will agree that the lavender flowers are beautiful on the other cover.
One thing we might both think is a good change from the start: The Winner's Curse covers. Aren't they better now than the old ones that graced the cover before? I'd describe it as a woman (drawn) standing with a cape or sword or something of that nature?

  2. I reeeally want to read And I Darken. I’ve heard so many good things about it and it just seems like a great book.
I’m really excited for Caraval to come out in January. I’ll probably end up spending some Christmas money on that 😛

    1. Have you read the first book, The Queen of the Tearling? I’m hoping I enjoy the second just as much as that one!
Thank you! If the cover of Caraval on Goodreads is the final cover then trust me, it will be!

  3. Your pictures are so pretty! Looks like you had a pretty fantastic haul, too. I’m super jealous that you have And I Darken – it’s one of the books that I really wanted to pick up this month but just didn’t get around to doing so!

    1. Thank you so much!
All these books sound incredible so I can’t wait! I didn’t even intend on buying And I Darken so soon, it just happened because it was on the offer the day I went in – so I feel really lucky about that one! Hope you get your hands on it soon 🙂

  4. I’m about 60 pages off finishing ‘After You’ by Jojo Moyes – I got it for half price from Waterstones too! I’m actually really loving it and I’m hopefully going to review tomorrow. I wasn’t sure at first either – about how it could live up to the first book, but it’s just great to read about Louisa again and there are some surprises in this sequel. Hope you enjoy it! 🙂 I wouldn’t say it was as good as the first one, but it’s still really good.

    1. Thanks!
I find it odd that the version without the art is everywhere now…but that’s because the main reason I got it was for the art. I suppose it’s not the same for everyone!

  5. Awww, this is so freaking creative!! I love your haul so much and your pics are beautiful!
I have most of these books on my TBR and I’m dying to read A Monster Calls. I’ve heard amazing things♥
    Great list! And happy reading!
