Reader Problems Book Tag

It’s December…which means it’s Christmas!!! Get the tree up, dec’ the halls, crack on the Christmas songs, no one can stop me now!

I wasn’t planning on posting today, but college was cancelled so I have time now! Just planning on spending the day reading – hopefully finishing my book so the review can go up tomorrow – and being on the internet. Oh I can’t wait!

Anyway, I was tagged by La Book Dreamer to do this tag, so thank you (!) and let’s get to it πŸ˜€

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

It depends on my mood. I just read whatever I feel like reading at the time. Although, when I can’t make up my mind between a few books, I have been known to use the twitter polls to get others to vote on what I should read next. I did this for Shatter Me and Shadow and Bone. It’s quite helpful!

tweet

That actually took me so long to find…I tweet so much!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
Normally I’ll try to finish it because I feel bad for leaving it, but the other day I actually labeled a book as “DID NOT FINISH” because I wasn’t enjoying it at all and I felt a reading slump starting because of it. I think I’ve accepted that it’s alright to put down books if I don’t like them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I would do everything in my power to complete that challenge. I’d read short books and graphic novels. I’d spend nearly every single spare second reading books just to catch up.

Goodreads challenge

I aimed really low with my Goodreads challenge this year, thinking that college work would stop me from reading so much…so I only aimed for 24 books – 2 books each month. HA! I’ve read 59 books this year so far, meaning I’m 38 books ahead of schedule. At least I know to aim higher next year!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?
I’d cope just out of habit. Most of the series I own don’t have matching covers…sad times 😦
I make more of an effort to get the matching covers now, but when I was younger I wasn’t as bothered. The one that bothers me most is my Harry Potter books. I have the original covers…apart from the last 2. Those two are different.
Now that I think of it, all the series I’ve started within the last year or two have matching covers so yay. I hope they stay that way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings? Β

Probably someone on here or twitter who agrees with me. Either that or I’d just rant to myself/people around me and hope for the best.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
I’d have to stop reading. I’d close the book, compose myself while putting it away, and then when I get home I’d reread the last few paragraphs and let all the sobs come out if they wish. I refuse to cry about a book in public.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?! Β

This really depends on how I’m feeling. Usually I’d read the synopsis to see if any of the story comes back to me, and then google the plot summary and read that to jog my memory.

But sometimes I do reread the book before. When Queen of Shadows was about to be released, I reread Heir Of Fire so I could sort of marathon them. This December I’m going to be rereading The Darkest Minds because I’m finally continuing the series and getting the 2nd book for Christmas…but I read The Darkest Minds about 2/3 years ago. So a reread is definitely in order!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask? Β
This would be an actual problem since I really don’t like people borrowing my books. All my friends know that, so they just don’t ask. BUT if someone did ask, if they were a close friend and knew how protective I am over them, I’d let them borrow it but sort of ask them constantly how far they are through it so I know how close I am to having it back. If it’s someone I didn’t want to give my book to…I’d just sort of mumble an answer and hope they forget about it. That’s bad, I know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump? Β

I’d just not read for a bit and hope my interest will grown back. I’d do other things like sing and watch movies. Either that or I’d try to read graphic novels and hope they will ease me back into it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?
This would very much depend on money. I have a lack of book funds. But I’d buy as many as I could. I feel absolutely no shame in buying a whole bunch of books at the same time, because it makes me incredibly happy.
Usually I have to wait a while to get them though, so I seem behind everyone else in reading. But it does mean that when I write a review, more people have read it and will comment their opinions, so that’s a good side to it πŸ™‚
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

Most of the time I’ll read them as soon as possible. But sometimes I do loose interest and they can sit there for months before I pick it up again. I do end up reading them all though so I don’t feel guilty.

  1. I really liked your answers! At first, I had also kept my Goodreads Challenge quite low (30) but then I finished that that in about 2-3 months! So I had to increase it! Now, it is at 120 and I have read 128 books so far! Thanks for doing this tag!

      1. Oh… Some of them are novellas and it’s just that I did most of my reading in the summer break when I had the chance… So it would not come in the way of my studies a lot! I am not yet in college so I have a bit more reading time than you do… What you have read so far is great according to your situation!

  2. This looks like such a fun tag, thanks for tagging me Ashleigh! I love your answers and I pretty much agree on every single one, I don’t like lending out my books and I definitely refuse to cry in public about a book as well. πŸ™‚

  3. I’ve never thought of using the Twitter polls to decide. That’s such a great idea! I set my Goodreads goal really high this year at 100 hundred books. (*cries with tears of stress but also happiness*) But I’m usually pretty good at pursuing a goal if it’s set and I can see the progress being made. So far I’ve read five books this year. I’d say I’m off to an okay start. Loved reading your version of this tag! Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

      1. Haha, yes. I really am gonna have to the that cause I’m at a crossroads right now… Haha, yeah, it’s kind of unrealistic but I decided to just go for it and set the bar high. We’ll see how this goes…
